Accept Business Credit Card

It is relatively common that employees who have jobs that require them to travel on business trips will receive business credit cards. The cards are paid for by the employer, and the employee is expected to only use the card for business related purposes. It is important that when you accept a business credit card from your place of employment, that you understand the policies of use. Some companies will cancel your company credit card and make you pay for business expenses out of pocket if you fail to adhere to their rules of use. There are many ways you can go about learning your company’s policies before you accept a business credit card. Most companies will provide you with a pamphlet or some sort of reference material that explains appropriate business credit card use. Other companies will hold some sort of meeting to explain to their employees how they expect the cards to be used. If your employer fails to explain to you their expectations, adhere to general business card use guidelines.

In general, you will only be able to accept a business credit card if you are an employee who has to travel for your job. You can use the card to pay for all expenses that you would otherwise not have while working on the job. Such expenses include airline tickets, meals, hotels, driver, etc. Things that you should not use your business credit card to pay for are Christmas presents for your children, a new bag of golf clubs, or any other personal item that is unrelated to your job. Before you accept a business credit card, you should figure out what the consequences of using your card inappropriately are. In most cases, your employer will simply terminate your card and make you pay for business expenses with your own money. Depending on the severity of the situation, it may result in termination of your job.

Generally, you will not have the opportunity to accept a business credit card unless you have proven yourself to be a trustworthy employee. Businesses do not give credit cards out to just anyone. In certain circumstances, they will actually look into their employees’ financial history before lending out a business credit card. Companies can do this by checking your credit history to make sure you have had no problems with credit card spending in the past. If you accept a business credit card, keep in mind that the company will be receiving the credit card bill. This means that your employer will be able to see exactly what you purchased using your business credit card. If you purchased a new pair of roller blades, it is going to be obvious that you are not using your credit card appropriately, when the bill comes around. In addition, when you accept a business credit card, you may be asked to keep an up-to-date expense sheet. On this expense sheet you will be expected to fill in all of the business purchases you make on the card. At the end of the month, your employer will compare your expense sheet to the credit card bill to make sure they match up.
